Basic wound closure (not suturing)

The nurses apply steristrips to wounds if appropriate. At the moment, the practice is not able to suture or glue wounds. Patients requiring suturing or gluing must attend the accident and emergency department at the Royal Sussex County Hospital.

Cervical Smears

Child protection

The practice has a written policy on child protection. All clinicians are kept informed about changes to local child protection procedures and have immediate access to contact details should they wish to report any concerns.

Childhood immunisations girl_with_open_mouth

Our practice nurses give all of the recommended immunisations throughout the first few years of your child's life. Your child will be contacted by the Health Authority when they are due for their immunisation. For further information on the latest recommendations for childhood immunisations, visit the NHS Choices website.

Coil fitting

Coils can be fitted at the practice by Dr Petzold. Speak to the practice nurse for more information or visit Patient.co.uk

Implanon contraceptive fitting

In line with the latest recommendations, we are happy to fit long acting contraceptive implants to any suitable woman. Speak to the practice nurse for more information.

The practice offers joint injections for frozen shoulders, carpal tunnel and trigger fingers/thumbs, etc. If you require an injection, you doctor may refer you to another doctor within the practice who specialises in joint injections.

Depression is the second most common cause of disability worldwide and the third most common reason for consultation in general practice. The practice identifies patients with major depression and records the severity and any interventions carried out follow national guidelines.

Meningitis ACWY vaccination for young adults

Minor surgery

The practice carries out some forms of minor surgery in a special clinic held by Dr Jens Petzold. You can be referred to the clinic by your own doctor.

MMR Catch-up

People born between 1980 and 1990 are too old to have received two doses of the MMR vaccine in childhood. The practice has therefore implemented a system to recall these patients for an MMR vaccination. Patients requiring the vaccine should ask for an appointment with the practice nurse.

Palliative care

The practice implements the gold standard in palliative care. Monthly meetings with doctors, district nurses and the Macmillan nurse are held to discuss patients requiring palliative care. The practice ensures there is good communication with the out of hours services and with the Martlets hospice.

Phlebotomy (blood taking)

If your doctor or nurse has asked you to have a blood test, see reception to make an appointment. If you require a fasting blood test, you will be given an appointment as early as possible in the morning. Blood tests cannot be taken after 2pm as they are collected and taken to the hospital and cannot be stored overnight.

Pneumococcal vaccination

Pneumococcal vaccination is available to all patients over 65 years and any younger patients in a risk group such as chronic respiratory or heart disease. Pneumococcal vaccination is available throughout the year.district_nurse
