  • Book an appointment straight away - No account needed 
  • follow the prompts using just the buttons on your phone - no need to speak to a receptionist
  • If you ALSO ask for a PIN you can check, change, cancel appointments and order repeat prescriptions..Please bring the listed documents to reception to create your Patient Partner account: Identity documents

Telephone 01273 770555 and choose Option 2 for reception, followed by Option 2 for appointments

  • Monday to Friday
  • 08:00 to 18:00 (18:30 for urgent problems).
  • It is helpful if you tell reception a short reason for your appointment but you can say it is private if you prefer

  • 08:00 to 18:30 (20:00 on Tuesdays and Thursdays).

Routine  appointments - usually available within 1 to 3 working days with GPs / ANPs. 

  • Can be booked up to 6 weeks in advance
  • Can be booked on SystmOnline, Patient Partner, or via Reception
  • Appointments available morning / lunchtime /  afternoon / evening

Same day appointments - if you think it might be too serious to wait for the next available routine appointment

  • Please only book for problems which you think might be too serious to wait for a routine appointment in a day or two.  
  • Appointments with GPs or ANPs open for booking from midnight
  • Can be booked on SystmOnline, Patient Partner, or via Reception
  • Appointments usually available morning and afternoon
  • We advise you to book before 11am
  • If same day appointments are full you will be offered an appointment with a Doctor in a Sit and Wait clinic  Patients will be seen in the order of clinical need so there may be a very long wait.

Appointments with a Doctor

  • Can be booked via Patient Partner, SystmOnline, or Reception. 
  • Can usually be booked several weeks in advance if preferred
  • Follow the instructions on SystmOnline, or tell reception, if you want to make your appointment into a Telephone Consultation instead of a Face to Face Consultation.
  • Please DO NOT book appointments for 'Medicals' or to complete forms - Speak to reception as you may need to pay in advance for 'non-NHS' private work.
  • It is helpful if you give a brief description of the reason for your appointment but please note that this will be visible to surgery staff and you can say it is private if you prefer 


Appointment with an Advanced Nurse Practitioner (ANP)

  • Can be booked via Patient Partner, SystmOnline, or Reception
  • ANP’s can diagnose, prescribe and refer and should be used as an alternative to a doctor.
  • ANPs are NOT part of our Practice Nursing team and must NOT be used for any of the routine Practice Nursing Team appointments listed in the Practice Nursing section below. 
  • Follow the instructions on SystmOnline, or tell reception, if you want to make your appointment into a Telephone Consultation instead of a Face to Face Consultation.

ANP's cannot:

  • Issue Sick Notes
  • Treat pregnancy related problems
  • Treat mental / emotion health problems

in these cases please book an appointment with a Doctor


Appointments with our Practice Nursing Team

  • Our Practice Nursing Team includes Practice Nurses, Healthcare Assistants and a Phlebotomist (for blood tests).
  • Click HERE to see which types of appointment should be booked with our Practice Nursing team
  • Some Practice Nursing Team appointments are available to book via Patient Partner or SystmOnline
  • For other Practice Nursing Team appointments it is essential to speak to reception staff.  This is because different nurse appointments have different requirements for staff qualifications and length of appointment, and have specific patient instructions.
  • Practice Nursing Team appointments are usually available to book up to 6 weeks in advance and are available at varied times of the day including from 08:10am, lunchtime and late evening.
  • You may also book a telephone appointment with a Practice Nurse, or you may leave a message for a Practice Nurse and ask that they call you back.

Annual Reviews of Long Term Conditions by our Practice Nursing Team and Clinical Pharmacist: 01273 224865

  • If you have one or more of the Long Term Conditions listed HERE you will be invited to book a single annual review* with a Practice Nurse or our Clinical Pharmacist near your birthday.
  • Please book your review by calling our review line between 10:00 and 16:00:
  • *for some kinds of Annual Review you will be asked to make an appointment with a Health Care Assistant or Phlebotomist before attending an appointment with a Practice Nurse or Clinical Pharmacist.

Telephone Consultations

  • You may make any appointment with a Doctor or ANP into a Telephone Consultation if you book via SystmOnline or via reception: on SystmOnline please write “PHONE” and YOUR TELEPHONE NUMBER next to the appointment.
  • Remember that telephone appointments may sometimes run late, just like face to face appointments.
  • Please only book single appointments– if you think you need longer please book via reception.
  • Please note that emergency telephone consultation with our Duty Doctor may not be listed at the correct time on your SystmOnline or Patient Partner account – the receptionist will tell you when to attend surgery.

Blood Test Appointments

Charter MedicalCentre Phlebotomy - Adults and Older children 

  • Blood tests for Adults at Charter MedicalCentre can be booked via our Automated 24/7 telephone system, via SystmOnline or via Reception.  Blood tests must be authorised by an NHS clinician.  For older children who can tolerate a blood test without local anaesthetic please speak to reception who may be able to book an appointment with a Practice Nurse.
  • For fasting Blood Tests eat nothing, and drink only water for 12 hours before your appointment. Continue to take your medication as normal.

Hove Polyclinic walk-in clinic - for over 16's only (must be ordered by Charter Medical Centre)

  • For blood tests ordered by Charter Medical Centre over 16's may also attend the walk-in Community Phlebotomy Service at Hove Polyclinic  (Telephone 01273 265588). You will need to take a copy of your Blood Test Referral Form, available from reception.  Please telephone the service for information before attending or click here:  Community Phlebotomy Service.  This service is  unable to take requests from consultants or any other hospital personnel.

Royal Sussex County Hospital - walk-in clinic - for over 16's only (if ordered by your NHS Hospital Consultant or other Hospital personnel)

  • For blood tests ordered by a consultant or hospital, over 16's can also visit the walk-in phlebotomy service at Royal Sussex County Hospital. Please telephone 01273 696955 for further information before attending. 

Royal Sussex County Hospital - walk-in clinic - for under 16's who need blood taken from the hand with a local anaesthetic 

  • Young children who need blood taking from the back of the hand after application of a local anaesthetic cream will need to attend the Royal Alexandra Children's Hospital (please call 01273 696955 for advice about how to access this service) - you will need a copy of your Blood Test Referral Form, available from reception if the test was ordered by Charter Medical Centre

Touch Screen Booking-In at Charter Medical Centre

When you arrive for your appointment you do not need to queue at reception - just check yourself in using the Touch Screen on the wall opposite the reception desk. Please follow the on-screen instructions carefully. The system may sometimes direct you to a receptionist to avoid an error or if you are late.
