Antenatal Clinic

Antenatal clinic is held at Goodwood Court surgery, not at Charter Medical Centre.

Your community midwives are: Jenny Hawke, Ruth Loska and Sue Forrest - part of the West team of midwives. After your first visit you will be allocated to one midwife for the remainder of your pregnancy. You can self refer using their on-line refrral form.

To arrange or cancel an appointment: Telephone 01273 523149 Monday to Friday. You are able to leave a message on the answerphone & your call will be returned as soon as possible.

For non urgent queries: Telephone 01273 523149 please leave a message with the receptionists. Alternatively telephone 01273 664794 to leave a message at the Community Midwives Office.

Emergency advice can be obtained via the labour ward on 01273 664793.

Basic Wound Closure (not suturing)

The nurses apply steristrips to wounds if appropriate. At the moment, the practice is not able to suture or glue wounds. Patients requiring suturing or gluing must attend the accident and emergency department at the Royal Sussex County Hospital.

Cervical Screening

A cervical screening test (previously known as a smear test) is a method of detecting abnormal cells on the cervix. The cervix is the entrance to the womb from the vagina. Detecting and removing abnormal cervical cells can prevent cervical cancer.

Child Protection

The practice has a written policy on child protection. All clinicians are kept informed about changes to local child protection procedures and have immediate access to contact details should they wish to report any concerns.

Childhood Immunisations

Our practice nurses give all of the recommended immunisations throughout the first few years of your child's life. Your child will be contacted by the Health Authority when they are due for their immunisation. Coil and Implanon Fitting

Coil Fitting

Coils can be fitted at the practice by Dr Helen Arcari and Dr Steph Quinn.  Speak to the practice nurse for more information or visit Patient.co.uk

Implanon Contraceptive Fitting

 In line with the latest recommendations, we are happy to fit long acting contraceptive implants to any suitable woman. Speak to the practice nurse for more information.

Joint Injections

The practice offers joint injections for frozen shoulders, carpal tunnel and trigger fingers/thumbs, etc. If you require an injection, you doctor may refer you to Dr Forsdick or Dr Rogers who specialise in joint injections.

Major Depression

Depression is the second most common cause of disability worldwide and the third most common reason for consultation in general practice.

The practice identifies patients with major depression and records the severity and any interventions carried out follow national guidelines. You can self refer for conselling here (CBT)

Minor Surgery

The practice carries out some forms of minor surgery in a special clinic held by Dr Jens Petzold.

You can be referred to the clinic by your own doctor.

MMR Catch-up

People born between 1980 and 1990 are too old to have received two doses of the MMR vaccine in childhood. The practice has therefore implemented a system to recall these patients for an MMR vaccination. Patients requiring the vaccine should ask for an appointment with the practice nurse.

Palliative Care

The practice implements the gold standard in palliative care. Monthly meetings with doctors, district nurses and the Macmillan nurse are held to discuss patients requiring palliative care. The practice ensures there is good communication with the out of hours services and with the Martlets hospice.

Phlebotomy (blood taking)

If your doctor or nurse has asked you to have a blood test, see reception to make an appointment. If you require a fasting blood test, you will be given an appointment as early as possible in the morning.

Pneumococcal Vaccination

Pneumococcal vaccination is available to all patients over 65 years and any younger patients in a risk group such as chronic respiratory or heart disease. Pneumococcal vaccination is available throughout the year.

Smoking Cessation

We encourage all our smoking patients to give up the habit.  If you would like advice and help to do so, please make an appointment with Diane, our Health Care Assistant (or email SC-TR.StopSmokingService@nhs.net).

Substance Misuse

A specialist nurse works in the practice one afternoon a week and manages a programme of methadone maintenance with a small number of patients. Methadone is only prescribed for patients undertaking this programme.

Shingles Vaccine

We are offering the shingles vaccine to the government recommended age groups, generally people in their 70s, but not everone is eligible. Click here to find out if you qualify
