2 Week Wait referrals

If your doctor or nurse want you to be seen urgently 'to rule out the possibility of cancer'

  • you should be given a '2 Week Wait Form'  in your appointment which explains what happens next. 
  • we will make a '2 Week Wait' electronic referral direct the to the hospital within 1 working day. 
  • the hospital should contact you within a few days. 

If you do not hear from the hospital about an appointment within one week please speak to the Secretaries at Charter Medical Centre:

NHS Referrals to services led by hospital consultants- how you can track them

We will refer you to a Referral Management Service (RMS) run by Optum. 

  • RMS will check that the referral has all the information needed and meets local criteria. 
  • RMS will then telephone you to arrange your appointment.  If they are unable to contact you they will book an appointment for you on the NHS e-Referral system.    
  • RMS will send you a BOOKING LETTER with details of your appointment, and how to change it if you want to. 

If you have not received your BOOKING LETTER within 3 weeks contact Optum:

NHS e-Referral Service

Your Booking Letter will contain a Booking Reference Number, and RMS will also send you a Password

With your Booking Reference Number and Password you can manage your referral online. 

You can check, change, or cancel your appointment, and cancel your referral.
